SUMMARY:Taking Rejuvenation to Longevity Escape Velocity: Aubrey de Grey
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to host Dr Aubrey de Grey\, President and Chief Science Officer of the Longevity Escape Velocity (LEV) Foundation\, for a live online talk with the Oxford Society of Ageing and Longevity. Dr de Grey is a biomedical gerontologist best known for pioneering the idea that ageing is a medically tractable condition and for his work on the SENS framework\, which targets the cellular and molecular damage that accumulates with age. \nIn this talk\, “Taking Rejuvenation to Longevity Escape Velocity”\, Dr de Grey will outline the scientific rationale and current progress toward therapies that may not only slow but potentially reverse aspects of biological ageing. He will discuss the concept of longevity escape velocity—the point at which advances in rejuvenation biotechnology extend healthy lifespan faster than time passes—and examine what scientific\, technological\, and translational milestones are needed to reach it. Drawing on his decades of work in biogerontology and advocacy for damage‑repair approaches\, he will also reflect on the opportunities and bottlenecks facing the longevity field today. \nThe event will be held online via Zoom at 6:30pm UK time\, featuring a 30‑minute presentation followed by an extended audience Q&A. The Oxford Society of Ageing and Longevity is a student‑led organisation highlighting cutting‑edge ageing research and rejuvenation biotechnology; this event is open to students\, researchers\, clinicians\, and anyone interested in the future of ageing science\, longevity biotechnology\, and the prospect of bringing ageing under medical control.
